BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Mississippi College's Brett Gardner earned Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week laurels, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

She becomes the fifth player in program history to earn the GSC Freshman of the Week since the team returned to Division II.

Gardner finished second on the team in scoring last week and helped the Choctaw to their first conference win of the season on Saturday, Nov. 26 against the University of West Florida. The Batesville, Ark., native posted a season-high and team-best 12 points in the win as she shot 50.0 percent from the field. She filled out her ledger with a rebound and a team-high four assists.

She logged a previous high with eight points in the game against Ouachita Baptist earlier in the week along with two assists and a block. The MC newcomer finished the week averaging 10 points, three assists along with a rebound in each game.

She ranks third on the team in scoring (6.1) and tied for tops on the squad in assists (2.1) per game through the first seven outings.

She joins former Choctaw Ally Alford (12.14.21, 1.11.22);
Rivers Futral (2.2.21) and Lauran Sheriff (12.12.17) to gain the award.

Mississippi College returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 30 as it travels down US Highway 49 to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face the University of Southern Mississippi in exhibition action. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
