Choctaws Defeat CBU By Double Digits in GSC Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Mississippi College picked up it's first Gulf South Conference win on Saturday, defeating Christian Brothers by a final score of 82-71.

In the first half of play, both teams remained within a one score game before a 5-0 run led by a jumper from Galen Smith and a 3-pointer by Tradavis Thompson as MC stretched their led to 27-21.  Over the next 10 minutes of play, CBU would close out the half on a 19-10 run of their own, as CBU went to the half leading 40-37.  

In the second half of play, CBU opened up to a 49-41 lead before the Choctaws went on an 11-2 run with the help of a 3-pointer by Miles Miller, which gave MC a 52-51 lead with 12:56 remaining in the contest.  The Choctaws continued strong throughout the half.  With 4:13 remaining in regulation, Ankerion Gross knocked down a 3-pointer, giving MC a double digit lead, 72-60.

Mississippi College went on to defeat CBU with a final score of 82-71 to improve to 3-1 overall in the season and 1-1 in Gulf South Conference play.

Mississippi College finished with four scorers in double digit points and were led by Tradavis Thompson and Miles Miller with 19 points each respectively.  Thompson finished with 4 assists on the night, while Miller led the Choctaws with 9 assists and 7 rebounds in the win.

Galen Smith tallied 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, finishing with 6 rebounds. 

Ankerion Gross notched 12 points on 4-0f-6 shooting collecting 3 rebounds in Saturday night's win.  

As a team, MC finished 30-of-53 (56.6%) shooting from the field, while tallying 32 points in the paint and 25 points scored off of the bench. 

The Choctaws return to action on Tuesday, November 22 for the 2022 home opener against Southeastern Baptist College. Both teams are set to tip off at 7pm at the A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College.
