Choctaw Fall at No. 4 Union to Open GSC Action

JACKSON, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell 98-43 at No. 4 Union University in the Gulf South Conference opener on Thursday, Nov. 17. MC moves to 1-2 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 1-0.
 
Kyiah Julian led the Choctaw in scoring with 14 points while Keller Bigham and Danielle Tennant paced the squad on the glass with four rebounds each. MC shot 29.8 percent from the field in the contest, connected on 14-for-20 from the free-throw line for 70.0 percent and pulled down 23 rebounds.
 
The Bulldogs led from post to post in the contest as they held a 21-point lead after the first 10 minutes of action and garnered a 54-16 advantage at the break. UU grabbed its largest lead, 55 points, with 3:29 left to play in the contest.
 
MC strung along its largest scoring run of the contest, 9-0, over the final two minutes of the third period and scored the first basket of the final period – a 3-pointer from Julian. The Greenwood, Ark., native posted seven points during the stretch while Taylor Ben added a layup in the paint for the final bucket of the of the third.
 
Leah Cauble paced a quintet of Bulldogs in scoring double figures as she posted a team-best 18 points. Keisharna Lucas and Ally Winnen each pulled down six rebounds. UU shot 55.9 percent from the floor and connected 15-of-21 from the charity stripe for 71.4 percent. The Red and White also notched 39 boards.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 19 as it continues its Volunteer State road trip in Memphis against Christian Brothers University. Tip is at 1 p.m.
