Choctaw Fall in GSC-SIAC Finale to Tuskegee

CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell 64-47 to Tuskegee University on Saturday, Nov. 12 inside Walter Sillers Coliseum on the campus of Delta State University. The game was the Choctaw (1-1) finale in the Gulf South Conference-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover.
 
Kyiah Julian led MC with 12 points and tied for tops on the team with six rebounds. A trio of Choctaw comprised of Taylor Ben, Ava Knoedl, and Carley Hudspeth scored six points each while Mya Bobo joined Julian with a team-best six boards.
 
MC shot 34.0 percent from the field and posted a clip of 36.0 from behind the arc, but managed just 60 percent from the free-throw line. For the second straight night, the Navy and Gold outrebounded its opponent as it grabbed 38 rebounds and held a plus-six advantage in the category.
 
Head coach Greg Long's squad held the Golden Tigers to a season-low shooting clip from the field as they managed just 31-percent for the game, including 21.7 percent during the second half. TU matched the Choctaw from behind the arc and was 13-for-18 from the charity stripe for 70.0 percent.
 
Trailing 18-13 through the first quarter, the Choctaw matched TU with 13 points heading into the intermission – thus trailing by five points at the break. MC outshot the Golden Tigers in the opening 20 minutes going 10-for-25 from the field for 40-percent.
 
The Maroon and Gold expanded its margin as outscored MC 17-10 in the third quarter and held a 12-point advantage the end of the third period. The Navy and Gold outscored its Yellowhammer State foe 16-11 in the final period.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 17 as it opens Gulf South Conference action at Union University. Tip-off in Jackson, Tenn., for 5:30 p.m., in Jackson, Tenn.
