*There was no GSC Cross Country Men's Freshman of the Week*
BIRMINGHAM, Ala --- The Mississippi College Cross Country team swept the Gulf South Conference Performer of the Week awards, as Gabe Poulin, Jazmin Hernandez, and Haley Hall won the weekly honors from their performances on Friday at the 2022 UAB Blazer Classic, held in Montevallo, Ala.
Hernandez set the tone in the Women's 6K by placing inside of the top five in a time of 21:30.9, 20 seconds faster than her school record that she set at the 2021 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. The Georgetown, Tex. native finished as the top NCAA Division II finisher.
Hall was right behind in a 6K time of 22:53.0, her first-ever time to crack the 23-minute barrier. Hall was the fourth NCAA Division II runner across the line and the sixth-fastest freshman overall.
Poulin used that momentum in the men's 8K to create history and officially become the first-ever Choctaw to break 24 minutes in the 8K, running a time of 23:54.7 to win the 2022 UAB Blazer Classic. Poulin led the trio of Jan Lukas Becker and Hunter Kurz, who swept the top three spots overall. Becker and Kurz also broke the 24-minute 8K barrier.
The men's and women's Cross Country teams have one more regular season at Mississippi College's Choctaw Trails before traveling back to Montevallo to compete in the 2022 Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships.
