Choctaws Fall in Straight Sets to UAH

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team dropped its second consecutive Gulf South Conference match of the season as it was downed in straight sets by the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Sept. 25 inside A.E. Wood Coliseum. MC moved to 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in the conference. UAH improved to 8-4 and 2-0 in the league.
 
The Choctaws were challenged offensively. UAH logged a total of nine blocks and allowed no Choctaw into double figure kills on the day. Lexi Richards topped the team with six kills followed by Lexie Laurendine with five to go along with her team-best 12 assists. Defensively, Missy Beber and Kendall Platt paced the Navy and Gold in digs with 11 and 10 respectively. Sloane FitzHenry led the team at the net with three total blocks.
 
UAH was led by Kendall Scharbert with 13 kills. Zharia Hubbard paced the Blue and White defensively with six blocks.
 
The Chargers held a 2-0 advantage after the first two sets (25-14, 25-12). MC made a run to extend in the contest in the third set. The two teams fought back and forth, seeing eight deadlocks early, the last coming at 12-all. UAH went on a 7-2 run to garner a 19-14 lead and never looked back, winning the set 25-21 en route to the sweep.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Oct. 1 as it travels to Pensacola, Fla., for the first match of two-match roadtrip. First against nationally-ranked University of West Florida is set for 6 p.m.
