PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell in straight sets at No. 15 University of West Florida on Friday, Oct. 1. MC moved to 3-6 on the season and 1-3 in Gulf South Conference action while the nationally-ranked Argonauts improved to 16-1 and remains unblemished in league play.

Kendall Platt paced the Choctaws offensively with a team-best nine kills.
Lexie Laurendine and
Levi Lennard helped direct the offensive effort as they collected double-digit assists. Laurendine dished out a team-leading 17 while Lennard supplied 12 assists in the match.

Defensively for the Navy and Gold five Choctaws registered a block in the outing led by
Sloane FitzHenry and
Lexi Richards with three each.
Stevie Nesbit added a pair of rejections.
Missy Beber defended the backline for the Choctaws with a team-best 10 digs.

After West Florida won the opening set 25-15, MC attempted to tie the match at a set each in the second set. UWF opened the set on a 4-0 run, but the Choctaws managed to rally and cut into the lead as it pulled within 18-16 behind a block from FitzHenry and
Lydia Paulette. The Argos responded after a timeout to score the next three points to expand lead to 21-16 before a Laurendine kill halted the run. MC picked up a pair of kills from Nesbit coming down the stretch to cut the deficit to 24-20, but UWF garnered the final point of the set on a Tyler Fezzey kill to take a 2-0 lead.

The Argos opened the third set with a 9-3 run, but again MC chipped away at the deficit and behind a 4-0 run cut the deficit to 18-17, following a kill from Platt, however, West Florida responded with seven of the next nine points to clinch the match with a 25-19 victory in the third.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 as it travels to Montgomery, Ala., to face Auburn University at Montgomery. First serve in the Alabama capitol is set for 2 p.m.
