BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Mississippi College men and women's cross country teams were recognized for its efforts this past weekend at the University of North Alabama Invitational.

Jazmin Hernandez and
Josie Whipp each garnered Gulf South Conference Weekly Awards as announced by the conference on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
Poulin was named the GSC's Male Performer of the Week. The Ruston, La., native was the top collegiate finisher at the Invite as he posted a time of 24:42.1, which is a career best for the junior. His previous, 8K best was 25:05.4 set in 2019 at the University of Montevallo Falcon Classic. MC finished top in the team standings as it defeated four Division I programs and two fellow GSC members in the University of West Alabama and the University of West Florida.
Hernandez led the women's program to a top finish as she grabbed the top individual honor. The Georgetown, Texas, product clocked a time of 18:10.9 in Florence, Ala., which was tops among four Division I programs and bested fellow conference members West Alabama, West Florida and Delta State University. Josie Whipp was tabbed the top female freshman by the GSC. Whipp compiled a time of 18:41.1 - her career best - as she finished fifth in the race. The Baton Rouge, La., native surpassed her previous best 5K time of 19:56.6 set the weekend prior at the Choctaws' season opener.
Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 as it travels to Missouri Southern Stampede. The women's 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. in Joplin, Mo., with the men's 8K scheduled for 9:45 a.m.
