HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mississippi College got the scoring started early as it plated three runs in its first trip to the plate. Willis drove in the first two runs with a triple to right field that scored Farid and
Ken Scott. Later, Willis crossed the dish on a UWG throwing error.
-
Jaron Harris' double to right center pushed
Alex Hay across home and later Kennedy singled up the middle to score Harris and extend the lead to 5-0 through two full innings.
- After Hay drove in
Logan McGrew in the third with an RBI-double, Farid logged a two-run, double down the left field line to plate Duplechain and Kennedy. The Mississauga, Ontario, native later scored on a wild pitch.
- The Choctaws wrapped up the scoring in the fifth as Kennedy and Duplechain each notched RBI in the frame.
Â
ON THE MOUND
- Andrew Smith (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season on the bump for the Wolves. Smith allowed nine runs – eight earned – on nine hits with three walks. He was one of three pitchers on the day for UWG. Brady Simpson tossed 1.1 frames in relief and allowed two runs – one earned – on a hit with two walks. Griffin Brown pitched the final frame and allowed two Choctaw baserunners.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX
- Mississippi College leads the series 14-11 following the run-rule victory and snapped a three-game losing streak to the Wolves.
- The run-rule win to close out the series is the third straight for the Choctaws. MC run-ruled Union earlier this week, 20-8, in the final game of the series and topped Shorter, 13-3, in the series finale on March 20.
- The shutout victory is the second of the season for Mississippi College. The first came on Saturday, Feb. 27 in an 8-0 win over Miles College. The winning pitcher of the game was
Bryce Lewis – his first win of the season.
- The complete-game performance by Lewis marks his second of the season and the fourth by a Choctaw hurler.
Jackson Bridges and
Payton Russell each have a CG on the campaign as well.
- No Mississippi College hitter was recorded on a strikeout in the contest. It marks the first time this season that the Choctaw opposition didn't notch a punch-out in a game.
