CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team had its four-game win streak snapped as the University of West Georgia swept a Friday doubleheader at Frierson Field on April 2. The Wolves (12-14, 11-12 Gulf South Conference) held off MC, 6-5, to win the opening game of the series and closed the day out with a 13-7 victory in the night cap.

Lane Willis and
Ken Scott led the offensive charge for the Choctaws as the duo combined for half the team's 20 hits on the day with five apiece. Scott paced the squad with three RBI. Willis tallied multiple-hit performances in both contests with two in the first contest and followed it with three in the second game.

Dylan Duplechain,
George Farid and
Casey Page added multi-hit efforts in the second contest with two hits each.

Payton Russell and
Jackson Smith were saddled with the losses on the mound. Russell tossed 5.0 innings in the first game and allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts in the start. Smith surrendered three runs – two earned – on five hits in a relief appearance as he walked one and struck out one.

Mississippi College and West Georgia close out the three-game series on Saturday, April 3 with a single-game. First pitch is marked for 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A pitcher's duel through the first four innings saw West Georgia strike first on the scoreboard with four runs in the top of the fifth. After three straight bunts, Dan Oberst doubled to right field to plate the first two runs of the game. Brody Wortham and Collin Moore followed with RBI-doubles of their own to plate the first four runs.
- Mississippi College got on the board in the bottom of the sixth as Scott scored on a
Caleb Reese single through the left side. The Choctaws loaded the bases as Willis drew a walk with two outs, but following a pitching change Hay flew out to left field to end the inning.
- Following a Jackson Webb leadoff home run in the top of the eighth, Scott answered with a solo home run of his own and Reese later scored in the frame on a Willis double to clip the lead to 5-3.
- UWG extended the lead to 6-3 in the top of the ninth, but the Choctaws rallied to plate two in the frame as
Dakota Kennedy and Page each scored on a Scott bases-loaded, single and error by the Wolves, but they would be all for the Navy and Gold as it left the game-winning run standing on second.

Dylan Marsh each saw action in relief appearances. Dunn allowed one run on four hits in 3.0 innings of work and fanned a pair. Marsh tossed the final frame with an unearned run allowed on two hits.
- Peyton Berry (1-3) received his first win of the season with 5.2 innings in the start as he allowed just one run on five hits and struck out seven with two walks. Sawyer Steele (2) garnered his second save of the season with four runs allowed – three earned – on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks in the final 3.1 innings of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams stood deadlocked after the first two innings as MC tied the contest in the bottom of the second. Reese got the scoring started as he crossed the dish on a bases-loaded walk by
Jaron Harris and Willis scored on the next at-bat as Kennedy was hit by a pitch with the bags juiced for the first two runs of the frame. Following a Duplechain sacrifice fly to left field to plate Page, Harris later came around to score on a Wolves' fielding error.
- UWG took the lead in the top of the third, but the Navy and Gold responded and tied the contest again in the bottom of the fifth as Willis tripled to right field to score Farid.
- The regained the lead again in the seventh with a pair of runs and added one more in the top of the eighth to take an 8-5 lead. MC got a run back in the bottom of the eighth as Harris scored on a Duplechain single up the middle.
- West Georgia then posted a five-run, top of the ninth capped by a two-run home run from Oberst. The Choctaws added a run in the home half of the inning as Willis scored on a Harris sac fly to center, but it wasn't enough.

Jackson Bridges allowed five runs – four earned – on 10 hits in 5.0 innings in the start. He struck out one and allowed a walk.
Dustan Dille toed the rubber for the final frame and allowed five runs on four hits with two walks.
- Robert Coleman (2-3) took the win on the bump for the Red and Blue with 4.1 innings of work in relief. He allowed just two runs – one earned – on five hits and struck out two. Jack Rasmussen allowed four runs on two hits in the start along with three walks, but didn't make it through two innings. Ezra Brown tossed 3.1 frame in relief and allowed one run on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Mississippi College leads the series 13-11 following the doubleheader sweep and has dropped the last three to West Georgia.
- West Georgia's 19 hits in the second game mark the most by an opponent this season while the 13 runs are second behind 18 allowed to UAH on March 12. The hit total surpassed the 17 allowed at Valdosta State.

Ken Scott's four hits in the first game of the series gives him his second four-hit performance of the season. The Meridian, Miss., native also has five home runs on the season, which is tied for tops on the team as the solo home run is his third of the season.
- Willis now has six multi-hit efforts on the season and his three-hit performance in the second game is his first of the season.
