Baseball Drops Twinbill at Nationally-Ranked West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped a doubleheader on Saturday, March 6 at 21st-ranked University of West Florida. The nationally-ranked Argos blanked MC in the opener 10-0 and closed out the series with a 10-2 win in the night cap. The Choctaws fall to 3-9 overall and 0-7 in Gulf South Conference play. UWF improved to 11-4 overall and inside the league.
 
George Farid led the Choctaws on the day at the plate as he collected four hits, including three in the second game of the day. Dakota Kennedy added a pair of hits in the night cap and Caleb Reese collected two hits in the opener. Dylan Duplechain plated the only runs on the day for MC with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh in the second contest.
 
Payton Russell (1-1) took the loss on the mound in the opener. Russell went 5.0 innings with five runs allowed on nine hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Jackson Bridges got the loss in game two. Bridges allowed four runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings of work. He added three strikeouts.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, March 12 as it hosts the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Friday's single game is slated for a 3 p.m., while the doubleheader on Saturday is marked for 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Florida scored in all, but two innings in the opening game of the day, as the nationally-ranked Argos hit three home runs in the contest. Adam Imwalle started the scoring in the bottom of the second with a solo home run.
- Following a trio of RBI-doubles in the fourth and fifth to increase the lead to 5-0, Cullan O'Shea added the second home run of the game with a three-run shot to right field. It was O'Shea's second-RBI hit of the game.
- Jason Roberts added the third home run of the game in the seventh. Roberts finished the game with three-RBI hits. Justin Dunnam wrapped up the scoring in the seventh as he crossed the dish on a balk.
 
ON THE MOUND
- Sam Ciaccio and Daniel Shelton made relief appearances in the contest. Ciaccio allowed three runs on three hits and a walk in an inning of action. Shelton tossed the final two-thirds of an inning as he surrendered two runs on two hits with a walk.
- Evan Floyd (3-0) went the distance for UWF as he fanned 10 and allowed three hits in 25 batters faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Florida jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first three innings and added another in the fifth as Dylan Menhennett hit a solo home run to left center to expand the lead to 5-0.
- The Argos then erupted for five runs in the sixth headlined by a Joey Wozniak two-run single to close out the frame.
- MC got on the board in the top of the seventh as Duplechain hit a home run to left field that scored Kennedy, who reached on a one-out, single up the middle.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

A quartet of hurlers took the hill for the Choctaws in the game as David Dunn, Brooks Warren and Dylan Marsh each saw time in relief. Dunn allowed four runs on six hits with four strikeouts in 2.2 frames. Warren tossed two-thirds of an inning and allowed two runs on one hit and two walks. Marsh tossed the final 2.1 innings and allowed just two hits while punching out four.
- Sean Means (1-1) got the win on the mound for the Argos as he tossed 3.0 innings and allowed just one hit and fanned a trio. Josh Pahlad (3) picked up a save with the final 3.0 innings of work as he surrendered the two Choctaw runs on four hits, but added four strikeouts. Tyler Dowdy went 3.0 innings in the start and gave up six hits with a strikeout.
INSIDE THE BOX
- West Florida improved its record to 16-2 as it ran its win streak to six straight in the series.
- Duplechain's home run ties him with Caleb Reese for tops on the team with three.
- Mississippi College logged 11 hits in the second contest, which is tied for second most on the season with an 11-hit performance on Friday in Pensacola. The most by the Choctaws this season came in a 12-2 win over Miles College on Feb. 27.
