PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College baseball team had its three-game win streak snapped as 21st-ranked University of West Florida uses a four-run, eighth to claim a 7-3 win on Friday, March 5 at Jim Spooner Field in Pensacola, Fla. The setback moves the Choctaws to 3-7 on the season and 0-5 in the Gulf South Conference. West Florida improved to 9-4 overall and inside the league.

Mike Scordo headlined the eighth as he hit a two-run home run to ignite the inning for the nationally-ranked Argonauts.

Caleb Reese paced MC at the plate going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
Dakota Kennedy and
George Farid each collected a pair of hits while Kennedy drove in one during the game.

Bryce Lewis (1-2) was saddled with the loss on the mound. Lewis tossed 5.2 innings in the start and allowed three runs – two earned – on five hits. He walked a pair and struck out five.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Florida struck first in the contest as it scored in its first at-bat, but the Choctaws quickly tied the contest up in the top of the second as Reese hit his third home run of the season to left field on the first pitch he saw of the game.
- The two teams stood deadlocked at 1-all until the bottom of the sixth when the Argos plated a pair. Dylan Menhennett and Jason Roberts each drove in a run during the frame to give UWF a 3-1 lead.
- Mississippi College pulled within a run in the top of the seventh as Farid found himself in a rundown that allowed Kennedy to score from third.
- Following Scordo's home run in the eighth, True Fontenot singled up the middle to score Sam Harris. Fontenot later stole second and then scored on two throwing errors to cap the Argos' scoring in the inning and game.
- The Choctaws attempted to rally in the top of the ninth as Kennedy drove in
Markarius Lee with a double to left.
Dylan Duplechain drew a walk to place a pair on with one down, but back-to-back strikeouts thwarted the threat and gave the Argonauts the four-run win.

ON THE MOUND
- A pair of Choctaw hurlers took the mound in relief of Lewis.
Jackson Smith tossed just two-thirds of an inning as he allowed just one hit and walked a pair, but didn't allow a UWF run.
Lance Wade pitched the final 1.2 frames and allowed four runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
- Ryan Brewer (4-0) took the win on the mound for the Blue and Kelly Green as he tossed 6.0 innings with one run allowed on eight hits with four walks and fanned six. Brendon Case (4) picked up the save as he struck out the final two outs of the contest. Joey Wozniak toed the rubber for 2.1 innings in relief of Brewer and allowed two runs on three hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout.

- West Florida has now won four straight games in the series and holds a 14-2 advantage in the series.
- The Argonauts are the second nationally-ranked opponent Mississippi College has faced this season. The Choctaws opened the campaign at No. 19 Valdosta State University.
- Mississippi College out-hit West Florida in the game. The Choctaws posted 11 hits as UWF compiled 10 with four coming in the four-run, eighth. It's the fourth consecutive game that the Navy and Gold have out-hit the opposition.
- The Choctaws left nine runners on base in the game.
- Reese leads the team in home runs this season with his third coming tonight. All three have been solo shots with the one in the second being his first leadoff homer on the campaign.
- Reese's three-hit performance was his first multiple-hit game of the season. The three-hit effort marks the third by a Choctaw this season.
- With his two hits tonight, Farid has three, two-hit games this season. Kennedy's two-hit performance is second of the season for him.
- With the five punch-outs, Lewis has fanned five-plus batters in three consecutive contests this season. Lewis leads the team in strikeouts with 19.
