CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team travels to Hoover, Ala., for the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series Semifinals on Wednesday, March 31. The Choctaws (7-1, 3-1 GSC) face the University of Montevallo at 2:30 p.m., at the Hoover Met Complex Finley Center.
 
Tickets are $6.00 and parking is $5.00.
 
This marks the first meeting between the two schools this season and first since 2019 in the GSC Tournament in Pensacola, Fla. Montevallo leads the series 4-1, including the last three outings. The
Choctaws win in the series came on Oct. 7, 2017 in a four-set win in Clinton.
 
Mississippi College is 2-0 against teams from the Yellowhammer State this season. MC faced the University of West Alabama twice this season. The Navy and Gold claimed a five-set victory in Livingston, Ala., in the GSC opener and completed the season sweep with a straight-sets win in Clinton in non-conference play.
 
Mississippi College head coach 
Shawna Laurendine faces her alma mater for the 16th time in her career. During her career, she earned NAIA First Team All-America, AVCA First Team All-America, Asics Tiger First Team All-America and NAIA District 27 Freshman of the Year. She helped UM to the second longest win streak in NAIA history during her senior season (42 consecutive). She was the 1994 Sington Trophy, given annually to Alabama's outstanding athletes of the year, and was named to the UM Hall of Fame in 1999.
 
MC posted its fifth, straight-sets win of the season as it advanced in the Gulf South Conference Spring Series Championship with a win over Lee (Tenn.) University on Saturday, March 27. MC posted an attack percentage of .281 in the three sets while Lee accumulated a .131 clip.
 
Lee became the sixth opponent this season to hit .200 or less this season against the Choctaw defense. MC is 6-0 this season when the opposition posts an attack clip under .200.
 
A pair of Choctaws notched double figure kills in the victory led by 
Sloane FitzHenry with 12. 
Jamie Boros joined FitzHenry with 10 in the effort. 
Lexie Laurendine and 
Levi Lennard directed the offensive charge. Laurendine dished out a team-best 15 assists while Lennard added 11. 
Erin Davis helped lead the way on the defensive end with a team-leading 11 digs while 
Stevie Nesbit was one of four Choctaws to register a block on the day. Nesbit led the squad with two.
 
FitzHenry's double-digit kill effort marked a career-high for the Houston, Texas, native.
She surpassed her previous total of nine set last weekend in the five-set win at Union. 
Kendall Platt registered a team-best four-service ace in the match as the team compiled eight on the day. The four aces equaled her season-high set against Alabama-Huntsville on March 6 in Clinton.
 
The GSC Spring Series Championship is scheduled for Thursday, April 1 at the Finley Center with first serve at 1 p.m.
