CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team completed the three-game, weekend sweep of Miles College with an 8-2 victory over the Golden Bears (1-3) on Sunday, Feb. 28 at Frierson Field at Dickins-Scoper Stadium.

Dylan Duplechain and
Dakota Kennedy led the Choctaws are the plate with a pair of hits each. Duplechain posted a team-best three RBI while Kennedy drove in two.

Duplechain and
Alex Hay helped add to the home run total for the Navy and Gold in the game. Mississippi College combined for eight home runs in the weekend series, bringing its season total to 12 on the season. The campaign total is tied for fourth in the league.

Jackson Bridges (1-1) picked up the win on the mound. He tossed 6.0 innings in the start allowing both runs – one earned – on three hits. He fanned three and walked two in the outing.

Mississippi College returns to Gulf South Conference action on Friday, March 5 as it travels to Pensacola, Fla., for three games. The series opens on Friday with a 6 p.m. first pitch. The Saturday twinbill is slated to start at 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mississippi College broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with Duplechain's second home run of the season.
- The Choctaws added to their total in the fifth as Kennedy and
George Farid each drove in runs during the frame and
Lane Willis got the scoring started as he scored on a Golden Bear error.
- After Miles plated its first run in the top of the sixth, the Navy and Gold responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, headlined by Duplechain's two-RBI double down the right field line. Kennedy plated the first run of the frame RBI single through the left side.
- Jacob Bisharat hit a solo home run in the seventh to conclude the scoring for the Purple and Gold and Hay followed suite in the bottom half of the inning to wrap up the scoring for the day.

ON THE MOUND
- Four Choctaws took the hill in the contest with
Sam Ciaccio,
Jackson Smith and
Dylan Marsh all performing in relief. The trio didn't allow a run or hit in the final three innings of the game and Smith and Marsh each tallied a strikeout.
- Kody Long (0-1) took the loss in the start for the Golden Bears. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowed seven runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
INSIDE THE BOX
- The win gives Mississippi College its first series sweep of the Yellowhammer institution and increases its win streak to four games, which ties for the longest in the series. The Choctaws won four straight during a run in the early to mid-1990s.
- Mississippi College is now 6-0 in games in Clinton in the series with Miles College and leads the overall series 8-1.
- The three-game sweep is the first for the Choctaws since they swept the University of West Alabama Feb. 14-15, 2020 in Clinton.
