CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team picked up its first two wins of the season on Saturday, Feb. 27 as the Choctaws (2-6) run-ruled Miles College, 12-2, in the opening game of the doubleheader and blanked the Golden Bears in the nightcap, 8-0. Miles falls to 1-2 on the season.

Mississippi College hitters combined for six home runs during the twinbill, including
Caleb Reese with two on the day.
George Farid,
Dylan Duplechain,
Markarius Lee and
Ken Scott each had one.

Farid and Duplechain tied for tops on the team with four hits each while Farid posted a team-best six RBI during the pair of contests. Duplechain finished second on the team with four RBI. Â

The Choctaws picked up complete-game wins from
Payton Russell and
Bryce Lewis. Russell allowed two runs – one earned – on four hits and struck out a pair in a seven-inning win – his first of the season. Lewis tossed seven frames, while striking out five and allowing two hits.
Mississippi College and Miles close out the weekend series on Sunday, Feb. 28. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws scored early and often in the opener as they plated runs in five of the seven innings, including a four-run, first to start the game. Farid drove in a pair to start the scoring with a double to left center.
Lane Willis and Lee each drove in one to give the Choctaws a 4-1 lead through the first.
- Reese collected his first home run of the day in the third to place MC up 5-1 and the Choctaws added back-to-back homers in the fourth off the bats of Lee and Duplechain to expand the lead to 7-2.
- After Farid hit a two-run home run in the sixth, he drove in two more in the seventh with a double down the left field line.
Alex Hay wrapped up the scoring in the frame with a RBI-double down the right field line.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In what was a pitcher's duel through the first three-and-half innings, the Choctaws broke the deadlock in the fourth with Reese's second home run of the day.
- MC plated five more in the fifth headlined by Scott's two-run home run. Duplechain also drove in a pair during the frame and Farid scored on a throwing error by Jacob Bisharat.

Dakota Kennedy rounded out the scoring in the sixth as he drove in Willis with a double to right center and later scored on a ground out.

- The twinbill sweep improves Mississippi College to 7-1 in the series with Miles and extends the win streak to three straight games in the series.
- With 12 runs in the opening game, it's the first time the Choctaws have scored 10-plus runs in a game since March 7, 2020 at Shorter.
