CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball opened its Spring 2021 season with a straight-sets win over Belhaven University on Tuesday, Feb. 23 inside A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The win is the first over the Blazers since Sept. 10, 2016 and the first in Clinton since Sept. 23, 2008

The Choctaws were led by
Jamie Boros with 10 kills while
Kendall Platt added eight on the night. Lexi Laurendine and
Levi Lennard helped drive the offense with double-digit assists performances. Laurendine dished out a team-best 17 while Lennard had 14.

Erin Davis led the defensive effort with a team-best 18 digs while
Autumn Frost, Platt,
Stevie Nesbit and
Lexi Richards each had a block on the night.

MC finished the night with a .386 attack percentage, including hitting .480 in the opening set. Belhaven hit .000 for the match.

Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 25 as it hosts Mississippi University for Women. First serve of the non-conference match is scheduled for 6 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mississippi College opened the first set running out a 7-1 lead as four different Choctaws scored during the run. Belhaven cut into the lead as it pulled within 10-6, but the Navy and Gold responded with a 6-0 run to push the advantage out to 16-6. The Blazers pulled with eight points late in the set, but MC finished the opening set with seven of the final nine points to take a 25-12 victory.
- A back-and-forth opening to second set saw BU holding a 5-3 advantage through the first eight points, but MC responded with a 13-1 run to grab the lead 16-6. The Green and Gold tried to draw close, but could only manage getting within eight points down the stretch as the Choctaws took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-14 win in the second set.
- MC opened with a 10-5 advantage in the final set and used 12-3 run to ice the match-clinching set at 25-13. Nesbit provided four consecutive points during the set as recorded a kill followed by three straight service aces. Seniors
Hannah Rue and Frost along with Laurendine notched the final three kills of the set.
