CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team picked up its second consecutive, straight-sets win on Thursday, Feb. 25 as it defeated the Mississippi University for Women (25-10, 25-7, 27-25) inside A.E. Wood Coliseum. MC improved to 2-0 on the season while the Owls fell to 0-2.

Jamie Boros paced the Choctaws for the second straight contest in kills with 11. Freshman
Charley Drain directed the offensive attack with a season-high 13 assists while Lexi Laurendine dished out 10 assists.
Levi Lennard added eight.

Erin Davis garnered 13 digs on the evening while
Stevie Nesbit and
Lexi Richards led the charge at the net. Nesbit recorded three blocks while Richards added a pair.

Brandi Bundy and Davis each added three aces in the contest to lead the team.

MC posted an attack percentage of .410 while holding the "W" to just a .052 clip.

Mississippi College opens Gulf South Conference play on Wednesday, March 3. First serve in Livingston, Ala., is set for 6 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mississippi College took control of the match with a pair of commanding, first two sets. The Choctaws jumped out to an early 12-4 lead in the opener and quickly expanded its margin to 17-5. The Owls closed the gap to within 10 points, but the Navy and Gold closed out the first set scoring seven of the final nine points.
- Like the opening-set, MC quickly jumped out to a 6-1 advantage and swelled its advantage to 15-4. MUW broke serve, but the Choctaws replied with an 8-0 run to help claim the 18-point win in the second set.
- A tight contest in the third, MUW took its first lead of the match at 14-13. The Owls wouldn't relinquish the lead until the Choctaws tied the contest at 25-all. A Boros service ace placed the Navy and Gold up 26-25 and the Pompano Beach, Fla., native closed out the set with a kill following an assist from Drain.

INSIDE THE BOX
- The win marks the second straight in the series for the Choctaws and gives MC its second-longest win streak in the series.
- The victory is the second all-time for the Choctaws on their home floor against their in-state foe. The first coming in the first-ever meeting with the "W" in 1986 – also a straight-sets victory.
- It's the first 2-0 start for the program since 2018 and the eighth overall.
