JACKSON, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team ran its win streak to three straight as it topped Lane College, 64-51, on Tuesday, Nov. 23 in J F Lane Gymnasium on the Dragons' home floor. MC improved to 4-1 on the season while Lane dropped its first contest of the season and moved to 2-1.

MC, which held the Dragons to 40 points below their scoring average this season, is 7-1 in the series with Lane and 4-0 on their home court. It's the first win at Lane since 1995.

Tamarah Sykes recorded the first double-double on the campaign for the Choctaws as she totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Taylor Ben joined Sykes in double figures with 10 points. Both marked season-highs for the duo. The Navy and Gold shot 39.7 percent from the floor and grabbed a season-high 54 rebounds.

"Excited for another gritty win from this team," head coach
Greg Long said. "We are starting to establish depth and find different scorers in seems like every game. We flat-out battled tonight and showed the aggressive type of defense I want us to be known for this season. Thankful for all the support, especially tonight on the road."

A see-saw affair through the first 10 minutes of play, MC held a four-point lead heading into the second period. Sykes gave the Choctaws their first double-digit lead of the game, at the 4:35 mark, and the team maintained the 10-point advantage heading into the break leading 32-22.

Lane opened the second half on a 12-2 run to deadlock the contest at 34-all with 3:05 left to play in the third quarter. MC responded with a 9-2 scoring spurt to close out the quarter and take a 42-36 advantage into the final 10 minutes of play.

The Choctaws rebuilt the lead to double digits midway through the fourth and never looked back. It grabbed its largest lead of the game, 58-38, on a layup by
Jay Levy with 3:06 left to play en route to walking away with the 13-point victory. Â Â

LC connected on 32.2 percent from the field and pulled down 36 boards. Jordyn Neal led the Dragons in scoring with 14 points. Brailyn Tate posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Mississippi College returns to action on Monday, Nov. 29 as it travels to Tougaloo College. It's the second meeting between the two Magnolia State institutions after MC defeated the Bulldogs 76-58 in Clinton earlier in the month. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

- Mississippi College improved to 15-5 against the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-time and 2-1 against the SIAC this season.
- The double-double is the first of Sykes' career. It's the first for a Choctaw since Jan. 29, 2021 when
NeNe Williams amassed 11 points and 12 rebounds at Christian Brothers.
- Sykes and Ben become the fifth and sixth different leading scorers this season for the Navy and Gold. It's Sykes second game as the leading rebounder.
- The 22-Choctaw points in the fourth quarter marks the most this season in the final period by MC this season. It surpassed the previous high of 19 set against Southeastern Baptist College on Saturday, Nov. 20.
- Lane was held to six points in the second quarter. It's the fewest points scored in the second quarter by an opponent this season. The previous low was 8 for Southeastern Baptist.
