Laurendine Named All-Gulf South Conference

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Mississippi College's Lexie Laurendine was named to the All-Gulf South Conference Second Team as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, Nov. 17. It's the second all-conference accolade for Laurendine during her time in Clinton.

One of the most versatile players in the Gulf South Conference, Laurendine transitioned from an outside/opposite hitter into one of the best setters in the conference this season and in Mississippi College history as she became the career, assists leader at MC earlier this season.

The junior ranks in the top 10 in the conference in assists and assists per set this season. She ranks seventh in the GSC in assists per set (7.84) and ninth in total assists (666). She recorded 54 assists, a program, single-match record earlier this season, which still ranks fifth in the conference and added a 53-assist performance over the weekend.

Alongside her dishing out dimes, she's also collected 83 kills on the campaign, which ranks fifth on the team. She currently sits third on the team in service aces, which is also top 20 in the league and added another triple-double to her impressive career, which gives her 14 in her career and ranks her as the only player in the conference to record a triple-double every year since 2018.

Laurendine becomes the first Mississippi College volleyball player to be named back-to-back, All-GSC in over three-plus decades. She joins Dawn Edwards who accomplished the feat by becoming a three-time all-conference selection from 1986 through 1988.

MC grabbed the eighth seed in the GSC Championships. It marks the first back-to-back, GSC Tournament berths since the 1993-94 campaigns. The Choctaws made the 2019 GSC Tournament field as the eight seed.

Mississippi College opens tournament play on Friday, Nov. 19 as it faces Auburn University at Montgomery, the fifth seed in the field, on the campus of the University of West Florida. The Choctaws hold a 4-2 record against AUM in series history, including the last two outings. MC defeated the Warhawks in five sets earlier this season in Montgomery. First serve in Pensacola, Fla., is set for 11 a.m.
