CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell in straight sets on Saturday, Oct. 9 to Union (Tenn.) University in Gulf South Conference action. The setback snaps a two-match, winning streak for the Choctaws, who fall to 5-7 on the season and 3-4 in conference action. UU improved to 12-6 on the campaign and 5-2 in league play.

Lexi Richards led MC in kills on the day with eight followed by
Lexie Laurendine with seven and
Kendall Platt with six. Laurendine also dished out 18 assists in the match while
Levi Lennard added 11 assists. Platt the squad in digs defensively with 12 while
Sloane FitzHenry posted a team-best two blocks – both solo stops.

After Union took the opening set of the contest, 25-17, MC attempted to tie the match in the following set. MC grabbed its first lead of the match at 11-10 in the second set. The two teams exchanged leads and nine deadlocks during the game - the last coming at 24-all – before UU closed out the set with the final two points and winning 26-24.

The Bulldogs rode the momentum into the final set of the day as it held a 16-8 lead en route to a 25-13 win to clinch the match.

Union was led by Emily Grace Calhoon with 13 kills while Laura Rose Gray led the defensive charge with four total blocks. The Bulldogs recorded a total of 10 team blocks.

Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 19 as it travels to Carrollton, Ga., for a 6 p.m. central first serve with the University of West Georgia. It's the first of five matches during the week for the Navy and Gold as it travels to the Peach and Sunshine State during the span.
