Lady Choctaws Grab Big Road Win at AUM, 69-61

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team pounded out a hard-fought 69-61 road victory over Auburn Montgomery on Saturday afternoon at the AUM Gymnasium.

The Lady Choctaws improved to 9-12 with a 6-9 Gulf South Conference record, while the Warhawks fell to 10-12 with a 3-11 league mark.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - AUM took an early 9-7 lead, but the Lady Choctaws responded with a 9-0 run and would eventually take an 18-13 lead into the quarter break.
  - In the second, the Warhawks would take a 22-20 lead when Jordan Brewster hit a three-pointer with 7:10 remaining.
  - It would be the last lead AUM would have as MC went on a 6-0 run and would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
  - They would eventually take a 38-32 lead into the halftime break and would keep the six-point lead after three with a score of 53-47.
  - The Warhawks made things close in the final minutes as Alexia Wallace scored with 2:09 remaining to make the score 62-59.
  - Shanell Kitchens answered with a bucket on the next possession, and the Lady Choctaws would go on to get the road win.
 

KEY STATS
  - The Lady Choctaws shot 49% (26-of-53) from the field and held the Warhawks to just 39% (23-of-59).
  - MC turned the ball over just 11 times and scored 21 points off 17 AUM turnovers.
  - Mikeba Jones led MC with 17 points, while Moriah Hurst had 14.
  - Zariah Matthews just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and tied a career-high with nine assists.
  - Coco Hobson added 11 points with a team-high eight rebounds.
  - Victoria Morales led the Warhawks with 17 points.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday night in Clinton when they host Valdosta State at 5:30 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
