Minor and Reese Named MC Merit Health Athletes of the Week

CLINTON, Miss. --- Freshmen Rayne Minor and Caleb Reese have been named Mississippi College Merit Health Athletes of the Week, it was announced on Monday, Feb. 3.
 
 
Minor (Denham Springs, La.) hit .563 and went 5-of-5 on stolen bases as the Lady Choctaw softball team opened the year with a pair of wins at the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Ala.
 
She tallied multiple hits in 3-of-4 games and had three hits against Saint Leo and Tuskegee. She leads the team with nine hits and five runs scored through four games, including scoring three times in the win over Tuskegee.
 
Minor and the Lady Choctaws are scheduled to head to Arkadelphia, Ark. this coming week where they will play in the McGhee/Hawkins Invitational, hosted by Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist.
 
 
Caleb Reese (Bossier City, La.) had an impressive weekend debut as the Choctaws opened the 2020 season. Reese led the squad with a .556 batting average as he went 5-for-9 from the dish, including a double and a three-run home run, along with a team-best four RBI. He registered multiple hits in two of the three contests as Mississippi College took its third straight series against Harding University. His homer in the second game of the series placed the Choctaws on top for good en route to a 6-2 victory.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Feb. 7 as it travels to Young Harris, Ga., to face the YHC in a three-game series over the weekend. First pitch on Friday is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday's single game is marked for 1 p.m. while Sunday's finale is slated for Noon. All times are central.
 
 
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
 
The athletic department sponsors 17 intercollegiate athletic programs: Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Football, Golf, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field, Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field and Volleyball.
