Laurendine Records Third Triple-Double; Volleyball Falls in Four at AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell in four sets at Auburn University at Montgomery to close out the weekend on Saturday, Sept. 28.
 
Sophomore Lexie Laurendine recorded a triple-double to lead the Choctaws in the contest. The Clinton, Miss., native registered a team-best 13 kills and 19 assists to go along with 14 digs. Freshman Kate Bass finished second on the team in kills with nine. The Brandon, Miss., product added a service ace, dig and three solo blocks in the performance.
 
Julia Martin led the way with 17 digs while Autumn Frost turned in a team-best four total blocks (two assists, two solos). Ingrid Savola joined Laurendine with double figure assists with 11 while Kendall Platt recorded 13 digs.

TURNING POINT
AUM opened the fourth set with a 7-0 run. The fast start propelled the Warhawks to a 25-16, match-clinching victory in four sets. The Orange and Black picked up a pair of kills from Giada Pais-Marden and an ace from Isadora Nicolai during the stretch.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After AUM opened the match with a 25-16 win in the opening set, the Choctaws tied the contest at a set each following a 25-23 victory. Tied at 12-all in the set, the Warhawks went on a 5-1 run to grab a 17-13 lead, however, the Choctaws responded and tied the contest at 20-all. MC closed out the set on a 7-3 run, including back-to-back kills from Bass to end the set.
A back and forth contest in which both teams exchanged leads and runs, a Laurendine kill knotted the contest at 23-23, however, AUM broke serve and capitalized on two straight, MC miscues to grab the set 25-23.    

INSIDE THE BOX
Laurendine's triple-double is her third of the season and seventh of her career. She is the only player in the Gulf South Conference with a triple-double and is ranked among the leaders in Division II in the category.
Martin moved into fourth all-time in career digs with 792. She surpassed Jill Brown (2017-18) with 782.
Frost moved into sixth in career block assists with 122. She surpassed Rebecca Crane (2003-06) with 121.
Lauredine's double-digit kill effort is her fourth of the season.

NEXT UP
Mississippi College returns home on Tuesday, Oct. 1 to face Christian Brothers University. First serve of the conference clash is set for 6 p.m.
