OXFORD, Ala. --- The No. 24 Mississippi College baseball team dropped its first game of the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament on Friday, May 3 as the Choctaws were edged by the University of West Georgia, 6-5.

MC will face Valdosta State on Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. in an elimination game. The two teams split a doubleheader earlier in the season in Jackson, Miss.

Four Choctaws recorded multiple hits in the contest.
Grant Barber finished the contest going 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs.
Billy Cameron and
Chauncey Callier each went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Cameron also walked twice. Dylan Dupechain went 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored.

Dustan Dille (3-2) took the loss on the mound as he allowed a run on one hit with a pair of walks in the relief apperance. Dille was one of three pitchers to toe the rubber for the Choctaws in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws got the scoring started in the bottom of the first as Brandon Broussard picked up a RBI on a bases loaded, hit by pitch.
- West Georgia responded in the top of the third with four runs headlined by a Dan Oberst three-run home run to left center.
- MC cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame as Cameron single to right center to score Barber, who led off the inning with a double to deep left.
- The Navy and Gold clipped the lead to one run in the bottom of the fifth as Callier doubled down the left field line to score Barber for the third time in the game.
- Duplechain doubled to left field to tie the game at 4-all and Crim followed with a RBI single through the left side to place MC back in front 5-4.
- West Georgia regained the lead in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs as Logan Taylor drove in a pair.

ON THE MOUND
- Starter Chris Crosby tossed six innings with five runs allowed on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
- Tim Holloway finished the contest with three innings of work. He surrendered a hit, walk, hit by pitch and one strikeout.

- Blaine Crim become the program leader in games played with 188 during his four-year career in Clinton. He surpassed Richey Hines (1982-85).
- The Choctaws left 12 runners on base in the contest, including eight in scoring position.
- The setback snapped a three-game win streak in the series against the Wolves.
