Baseball Preview: Henderson State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 9 as it travels to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Henderson State University in a non-conference tilt. First pitch at Clyde Berry Field is slated for 3 p.m.

Tuesday marks the 15th meeting between the two schools in series history with the Choctaws having won 12 of the contests. The two squads met last season – the first meeting since March 10, 1996. MC and HSU started its series in 1994. The Choctaws are 5-0 in the series in Arkadelphia, Ark.
 
MC has won six straight entering the midweek clash with Gulf South Conference sweeps against Montevallo and at Christian Brothers this past weekend.
 
Five Choctaws are hitting above .300 this season led by Blaine Crim with a .351 clip. Crim became the program's career hits leader this past weekend at CBU with 231. The senior has a team-best 47 hits this season and also leads the squad in doubles, home runs and RBI. Billy Cameron sits second on the team with 40 hits this season and a .336 batting average – also second on the squad.
 
The Reddies are riding a two-game win streak after they took two at Southeastern Oklahoma State in Great American Conference action on Friday, Apr. 5. HSU is 19-16 on the season and 13-8 at home this season.
 
Brandon Pollock leads Henderson at the plate with a .391 batting average. Pollock has registered 50 hits and ranks third on the team in RBI with 25. Joseph Shepherd leads the squad with 33 RBI followed by Danny Mitchell, Jr., with 29. The trio are among five Reddies hitting .300 or better this season. HSU is hitting .288 on the campaign.
 
Following the midweek outing, the Choctaws return to action on Friday, Apr. 12 as it hosts Shorter University in the first game of a three-game, Gulf South Conference series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
