CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team extended its win streak to eight games as it took the first game of the three-game series against Shorter University on Friday afternoon at Frierson Field, 7-4.
The two teams were scheduled for a doubleheader on Friday, but the second game was halted, in the top of the fifth with two outs and the Choctaws leading 3-0, due to weather at 6:30 p.m. The game is scheduled to resume at Noon on Saturday with the series finale slated to follow.
Blaine Crim and
Grant Barber each posted multiple hit performances. Crim led the way going 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored. Barber registered a 2-for-4 effort with a RBI and a run.
Payton Yawn paced the Choctaws with a three-RBI day.
Chris Crosby (6-2) notched his sixth win of the season as he struck out six in seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits.
Ryan Lane (3) registered his third save with an inning of relief to close out the contest. Lane allowed one hit in the appearance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Luke Yancey posted a RBI double down the left field line in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie.
- MC added three runs in the fifth to break the contest open. Crim started the scoring in the frame with a solo home run to left field. Payton Yawn followed with a two-run single as he plated Brandon Broussard and Chauncey Callier.
- After Shorter added a solo home run of its own in the top of the sixth, the Choctaws added a run in the seventh and eighth to swell the lead. Yawn picked up his third RBI of the game as he pushed Billy Cameron across the dish. Grant Barber plated the final, MC run of the game with a RBI single that scored Hunter Sykes.
- The Hawks attempted a rally in the ninth with a pair of runs, but couldn't overcome the deficit.
ON THE MOUND
- Christian Bellew saw action in relief with two runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk in two innings.
NOTEABLES
- Lane moved to third in career saves with nine. The right-hander is tied with teammate Tommy Taborda for the spot.
- The win marked the fourth straight in the series with the Hawks and fifth overall.
