Choctaws Claim Series; Split Saturday Twinbill at AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Mississippi College baseball team claimed the series at Auburn University at Montgomery after splitting a Saturday doubleheader. The Choctaws claimed the opening game of the series with a 6-4 win before falling 4-2 in game two.
 
Dylan Duplechain led the team with four hits on the day as he drove in three. Blaine Crim tallied three hits in the twinbill.
 
Tim Holloway (1-0) notched his first win of the season and fourth of his career with a two, scoreless innings in relief in game one. The Mobile, Ala., native surrendered one walk as he held the Warhawks without a hit in the appearance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • AUM held a 2-1 lead through the five innings, but the Choctaws rallied with three runs in the sixth to take their first lead of the game.
  • Yancey placed the Navy and Gold up 4-2 with a RBI single up the middle to score Callier. Cameron scored on a Broussard fielder's choice to break a 2-2 tie after Alderman reached on a bases-loaded, hit by pitch.
  • Matthew Zielonko reclaimed the lead for AUM in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run home run.
  • With the bases loaded and one down in the bottom of the eighth, the Warhawks threatened to add more to the scoreboard, but a stellar, diving stop by Hunter Sykes and flip to Grant Barber started a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
 
ON THE MOUND
  • Garrett Hollinghead tossed seven frames in the start. Hollinghead allowed four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the two teams stood tied at 1-1 through four frames, AUM broke the deadlock with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. MC had the bases loaded with one out in the top half of the inning, but was held scoreless.
  • The Choctaws cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth as Duplechain grounded out, but pushed Will Godfrey across the plate.
 
ON THE MOUND
  • Ryan Lane (4-3) suffered the loss on the mound with the complete game. Lane allowed four runs on nine hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
 
NEXT UP
Mississippi College returns to action on Wednesday, March 27 as it hosts the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The midweek contest is the first of five, straight games at Frierson Field at Dickins-Scoper Stadium. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
