Choctaws Take Saturday Twinbill at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, March 16 at Lee University. The Choctaws grabbed a 13-4 win in the opening game of the series and rallied in the sixth to gain a 6-5 win to close out the day.
 
Blaine Crim led the Choctaws with five hits on the day as the senior went 5-for-11 with five RBI and four runs scored. Grant Barber hit .667 on the day with two RBI and three runs followed by Chauncey Callier with a .600 clip. Dylan Duplechain added a three-hit day while Hunter Sykes drove in three.
 
Brandon Kennedy and Chris Crosby earned wins on the mound. Crosby (2-2) struck out six in eight innings to even his record on the season. Kennedy (1-1) fanned the only three Flames he faced in the fifth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Callier started the scoring in the first inning with a RBI single that plated Barber. Crim later scored on a wild pitch.
  • After Barber scored on a throwing error, Cameron singled up the middle in the second to push Duplechain across the dish and extend the lead to 4-0.
  • The Choctaws added two more in the third as Yancey stole home and Barber doubled down the left field line to score Duplechain.
  • After Lee posted its first two runs of the game in the bottom of the third, MC responded with a three-spot in the fourth. Sykes drove in a pair with a single up the middle and Luke Yancey later scored on a bases loaded, hit by pitch.
  • Lee picked up its final two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth as Thomas Zazzaro singled to center field.
  • The Choctaws closed out the scoring in the sixth as Crim hit a three-run home run.
 
ON THE MOUND
  • Tim Holloway pitched the final inning of the game. Holloway allowed one hit and walked one in relief of Crosby.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the second straight game, the Choctaws got the scoring started in the first inning. Crim drove in a pair on a double to left field and later scored from second on a throwing error.
  • After Lee plated one in the second, the Flames took their first lead with three in the third inning. LU used three hits and a MC error to get the lead.
  • Crim tied the contest in the sixth with a double to right field that scored Duplechain. After Cameron was intentionally walked, Dustan Dille drew a bases loaded walk to place MC up 5-4 and Luke Yancey drew a walk to score Crim.
  • Lee picked up its final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth as Miguel Pimentel drew a bases loaded walk to pull the Flames within a run, but Lane's second strikeout of the frame closed the LU rally with the bases loaded.
 
ON THE MOUND
  • Zack Ingram tossed four frames in the start as he allowed four runs on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts.
  • Ryan Lane tossed the final two frames as he fanned three with three walks and a run allowed on one hit.
 
NOTEABLES
  • Ingram moved into the top 10 in career innings pitched with 177.2.
