Four Lady Choctaws Score in Double Figures; MC Falls at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. --- Mississippi College placed four in double figures, but it's not enough as the Lady Choctaws fall 91-77 at in-state foe Delta State University. The Lady Statesmen secured the season sweep in the series.

Lauran Sheriff led the Navy and Gold with a career-high 22 points while Jamilah Sanders added 20 points. Coco Hobson supplied 11 points and Zariah Matthews provided 10 points. Sanders paced the team with eight rebounds. Mississippi College shot 50 percent from the floor and 69.2 percent from the free throw line.
 
Delta State's Nia Johnson led the team with 28 points. Frederica Haywood added 18 points and 11 rebounds. Alondrea Rush chimed in 14 points with Quantesha Patterson adding 12 points. DSU shot 60 percent from the field, including a clip of 43.8 from behind the 3-point line. The Lady Statesmen connected on 75 percent from the charity stripe.
 
TURNING POINT
  • Delta State closed out the final four minutes of the game on a 20-2 run to claim the in-state contest. Mississippi College led 75-71, on a Kaitlyn Thompson jumper, before the Lady Statesmen began its game-closing run.

  • It's the first time MC has had two players score 20-plus in the same game this season.
