No. 18 Choctaws Split Doubleheader with Quincy

CLINTON, Miss. --- The No. 18 Mississippi College baseball team split a doubleheader with Quincy (Ill.) University on Friday, Feb. 15. The Choctaws picked up a 5-1 win in the night cap after falling 13-7 in the opener.
 
Ryan Lane led the charge for MC in the second game as he posted a career-high 11 strikeouts in the seven-inning contest as he improved to 2-1 on the season. Dylan Duplechain and Blaine Crim paced the Choctaws offensively. Duplechain led the team with four hits and drove in three runs. Crim led the squad with four RBI and registered three hits on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams battled to a 2-2 deadlock through the first six innings, but the Hawks regained the lead with a four spot in the seventh headlined by a three-run home run from Ray Greco.
  • MC answered back with three runs of its own in the eighth as Crim drove in a pair and Chauncey Callier added a RBI.
  • Quincy responded with seven runs in the top of the ninth to extend its lead to 13-5 with home runs from Jeff Hightower and TJ Tamaccio.
  • Duplechain added the final two runs for MC with a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the ninth.
ON THE MOUND
  • Zack Ingram (2-1) took the loss in relief allowing four runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
  • MC starter Chris Crosby surrendered two runs on four hits in five innings with four strikeouts and a walk.
  • Brandon Kennedy gave up two runs on a hit and a walk.
  • Garrett Ainsworth tossed the final frame with five runs allowed on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MC jumped on the board early with four runs as Hunter Sykes drove in a pair and later scored on a wild pitch in the second inning. Duplechain added a sacrifice fly in the frame.
  • Crim added his third home run of the season – a solo shot – in the third to extend the lead to 5-0.
  • QU picked up its lone run of the game in the fourth with a Cody Birdsong home run to center field.
ON THE MOUND
  • Lane allowed just three Hawks to reach base with two hits and a walk along the career mark.
NOTEABLES
  • Lane's previous high was nine strikeouts.
  • Crim's three hits moved his career total to 196. Richey Hines is the career leader with 228 hits. The Mobile, Ala., native also moved to fifth in career doubles with 37.
  • The setback in the opener is the first loss to a Great Lakes Valley Conference team in program history.
