Lady Choctaws Cruise Past MUW

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College posted five players in double figures as the Lady Choctaws eased past the Mississippi University for Women, 84-38, on Wednesday evening inside A.E. Wood Coliseum. MC improved to 4-4 on the season while the Owls fell to 2-8.
 
Lindsey Vaughn led the quintet with a career-high 15 points. Zariah Matthews added 14 with 11 coming from Mikeba Jones. Shanell Kitchens and Moriah Hurst, who recorded her third, career double-double with a team-best 10 rebounds, chimed in 10 apiece.
 
MC shot a season-high 52.2 percent from the floor and connected on 75 percent from the charity stripe.
 
Autumn Taylor led the "W" with 10 points as the Owls shot 30.4 percent from the field, including a clip of 33.3 from behind the arc. Taylor also led the squad with seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
>> MC reached its double-digit lead with 6:37 in the first quarter as Kitchens' buried a 3-point to place the Navy and Gold up, 14-3. MC expanded its margin to as much as 17 points in the first 10 minutes of play.
>> The Lady Choctaws reached a 20-point advantage with 4:29 left before the half on a trey from Vaughn and took a 30-point, 49-19, lead in at the half.
>> MC never relinquished the plus-30 point advantage through the third period as it led 61-25 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
>> The Navy and Gold held the "W" at 19 points from the just under three minute mark of the second quarter until the 6:58 mark of the third quarter when Kyla Temple jumper.
>> MC claimed its largest lead of the game, 47 points, with 1:21 left in the game en route to 46-point victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
>> The victory is the 21st in the series with the former Gulf South Conference foe and the first since Jan. 22, 1996.
>> The 46-point win is the largest margin of victory this season for MC as it surpassed the 30-point win over Tougaloo on Nov. 30.
>> It's the first time in her career that Vaughn has led the team in scoring.
>> The 49, first half points are the most this season and ties the most in a half on the campaign.
>> Hurst's double-double is the second of the season and stands tied for most on the team with Coco Hobson and Kaitlyn Thompson.
