MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team picked up its first win on the road as the Lady Choctaws knocked off Christian Brothers University, 77-62, in Memphis, Tenn., on Sunday, Dec. 15. MC improved to 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play. CBU falls to 2-5 and 1-3 in league play.

Kaitlyn Thompson led a quartet of Lady Choctaws in scoring with a career-high 21 points. The Cleveland, Miss., native tied a career-high with a team-best 12 rebounds. Hobson joined Thompson with a double-double in the contest as she poured in 16 points with 10 rebounds.

Zariah Matthews and
Moriah Hurst joined the double-digit scorers. Matthews added 13 points while Hurst supplied 10.

MC shot 43.9 percent from the floor, including 37.5 percent from behind the arc. The Navy and Gold shot 81.3 percent from the free throw line.

CBU was led Brynne Lytle's 23 points. The Lady Bucs shot 39.1 percent from the field. MC held the Black and Red to 11 percent from the 3-point line while it shot 55.6 percent from the charity stripe.

HOW IT HAPPENED
>> The Lady Choctaws jumped out to a big lead as they held a 29-19 advantage after the first 10 minutes play.
>> The Lady Bucs rallied and clipped the deficit to within 33-29, but the Navy and Gold responded with a 12-2 run to close out the first half and take a 45-31 lead in at the intermission.
>> MC held the double-digit lead until the 5:24 mark of the third quarter, 49-40, and the Lady Bucs pulled within eight points with under a minute to play in the quarter. MC responded once again with a 5-0 run to close the stanza out with a 58-45 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
>> Thompson gave MC its largest lead of the game, 77-57, on a jumper with 2:50 to play.

>> The victory marked the third straight in the series for the Lady Choctaws and the third consecutive in Memphis.
>> With the three double-doubles on the season, Hobson and Thompson are tied for tops on the team
Thompson's 21 points surpassed her previous career-high of 15 set against LeMoyne-Owen earlier this season. She becomes the first Lady Choctaw with 20-plus points since Hobson scored 23 against West Alabama on Feb. 28, 2019.
>> The Lady Choctaw bench outscored the CBU reserves 21-8 in the contest.
