Lady Choctaws Rout Tougaloo

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College placed four players in double figures as the Lady Choctaws routed in-state foe Tugaloo College on Saturday, Nov. 30, 88-58. The win moved MC to 3-3 on the season while the Bulldogs fell to 3-7
 
Mikeba Jones recorded a career-high as she led the roster with 19 points in the win. Lindsey Vaughn reset her season-high with 14 points. Kaitlyn Thompson tied her season-best with 13 points and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds. Shanell Kitchens rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
 
The Navy and Gold shot 48.7 percent from the floor and connected on a season-high 92.3 percent from the free throw line.
 
Jelisa Smith paced the Bulldogs with 12 points followed by 10 points from Amari Pittman and Jemisa Grice. Tania Young led the Red and Blue on the glass with nine boards.
 
TC shot 25.3 percent from the field, including 25.8 from behind the arc, and was 12-for-15 (80.0%) from the charity stripe.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Leading 20-16 after the first 10 minutes of play, the Lady Choctaws jumped out on 14-0 run to start the second period. Sisson connected on an old-fashioned 3-point play to cap the scoring run for MC.
- Nakayla Hawkins picked up the Bulldogs first points of the quarter with a 3-pointer at the 4:13 mark.
- Tougaloo cut the deficit to single digits with 2:19 left before the half on a Toya Bethel jumper, but the Lady Choctaws responded with a 6-0 run to send the contest into halftime leading 40-26.
- MC never relinquished its double-digit lead the remainder of the contest as it grabbed its largest lead of the game, 33 points, with 1:41 left to play on an Elly Nash jumper.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
- Mississippi College's 88 points tied a season-high. The mark equaled the point-total against Belhaven in the season opener.
- Kaitlyn Thompson's double-double marked the first one of her career and the fourth of the season for the Lady Choctaws.
- The Lady Choctaws notched seven blocks in the game – a season-high. Lilly Sisson recorded a three for a season-high. Jeyla Smith added a pair for a season-high.
- Elly Nash and Hannah Shafer recorded their first points of the season.
