Strong Second Half Propels Montevallo Past Choctaws

MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- After holding Montevallo to just 19 points in the first half, the Falcons stormed back in the second half and took down the Mississippi College men's basketball team, 60-47, on Monday night in Trustmark Arena.

The Choctaws fell to 3-3 on the season with a 1-1 mark in the Gulf South Conference, while the Falcons improved to 5-2 with a 2-0 league record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Choctaws were controlling the action throughout the first half, grabbing their largest lead of the night at 18-12 with 5:08 remaining after a jumper from junior Willie Logan.
  - MC would eventually take a 22-19 lead into the halftime break as both teams shot less than 27% from the floor over the first 20 minutes.
  - In the second half, the Choctaws would continue to hold the lead, holding a 31-28 advantage with 15:10 to go following a jumper from junior Winford Ross.
  - The Falcons would take over from there, however, scoring the next 12 points and never leading by fewer than seven the rest of the way and extending the lead to as many as 18.
  - The Choctaws would cut the score down to as few as 11 in the final minutes, but Montevallo would pick up their second straight GSC victory.

KEY STATS
  - The Choctaws shot just 32% (17-of-54) from the floor and went just 2-of-17 (12%) from the three-point line.
  - They won the rebounding margin with 38 boards to 35 for the Falcons, but 20 MC turnovers led to 19 points for Montevallo.
  - In the second half, the Falcons shot 56% (15-of-27) from the field and put up 41 points over the second 20 minutes.
  - Ross led the way for MC with a season-high 18 points, tallying a double-double with 10 rebounds and adding five blocked shots.
  - Sophomore Zach Jones had a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with seven points.
  - Wade Lowman led all scorers with 21 for the Falcons, also recording a double-double with 10 rebounds.
