Volleyball Falls in Five at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. --- For the sixth time this season the Mississippi College volleyball team went to five sets, but the Choctaws came up on the short end as it fell 3-2 in Gulf South Conference action at Union University on Friday, Oct. 4.
 
Jamie Boros, Kendall Platt and Lexi Richards as they each posted double figure kills. Boros led the way with 18 while Platt added 13 and Richards poured in 11. Lexie Laurendine dished out a team-best 28 assists while Levi Lennard added 14. Julia Martin led a quartet of Choctaws with double-digit digs with 20.

TURNING POINT
After forcing the match to the deciding set with a 25-20 win in the fourth, the Bulldogs started out fast with a 5-1 lead in the fifth. MC battled back and pulled within two behind a 3-1 run, but couldn't overcome the deficit as UU took the set 15-12.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Union opened the match with a 25-16 win in the opening set, the Choctaws rallied back to take the second and third sets (25-23, 26-24). MC picked up three of the final four points in the second set to even the match and rallied from 23-20 down in the third set to close it out on a 6-1 run.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Richards and Sloane FitzHenry recorded a season-high kill performances on the evening.
Laurendine's assist total matched a season-high and was one shy of tying a career benchmark.
 
NEXT UP
Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 8 as it travels to Columbus, Miss., for the renewal of the series with Mississippi University for Women. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
