Choctaws Sweep Lane College

JACKSON, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team extended its win streak to two following a straight-sets win at Lane College on Thursday, Oct. 3. The sweep is the second of the season for MC.

Every Choctaw volleyball player saw action on the in sweep of the Dragons.
 
Jamie Boros led the team with eight kills on the evening while Lexi Richards and Kate Bass finished second on the team with seven kills each. Lexie Laurendine and Levi Lennard dished out a team-best 17 assists each. Julia Martin and Boros shared the load in digs with nine and eight respectively while Bass logged three blocks.

TURNING POINT
Mississippi College jumped out early in the second set as it claimed a 13-3 lead. The Choctaws continued to stockpile points as it grew the lead to as much as 20-4. Lane battled back scoring eight straight points, but the Navy and Gold closed out the set scoring five of the final eight points en route to a 25-15 victory and 2-0 lead in the match.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Leading 17-12 in the opening set, the Choctaws closed the set on an 8-1 run to take a 1-0 lead. MC used Lane miscues and picked up kills from Platt, Laurendine and Bass – who also added an ace during the run.
  • MC jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the third and rode it to a 25-10, match-clinching victory. The Choctaws closed the set with the final seven points of the contest. 
INSIDE THE BOX
  • The victory is the set in the series over Lane College.
  • The Choctaws held Lane to the fewest set points on the season in the third set at 10.
  • Lennard's 17 assists were one shy of tying her season-high.
  • Sophomore's Grace Rich and Gwenyth Prenter, and freshman Madelyn Keene saw action for the first time this season.
  • Keene and Noa Parks recorded their first collegiate kills in the contest.
NEXT UP
Mississippi College continues its road trip as it returns to Gulf South Conference action at Union University on Friday, Oct. 4. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
