Lady Choctaws' Win Streak Snapped at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team had its win streak snapped in a 73-56, University of West Georgia victory in The Coliseum in Carrollton, Ga. The Lady Choctaws had won its last two outings prior to contest on Saturday.

Jamilah Sanders and Moriah Hurst each scored in double-digits led by Sanders with 13 points. Hurst added 11 points in the contest. Kaitlyn Thompson and Kirsten Thompson each registered a team-best eight rebounds. The Lady Choctaws 34 percent from the field, including 40 percent from behind the arc. The Navy and Gold connected on 72.7 percent from the free throw line.
 
Kilah Nixon and Aysha Harris paced West Georgia with 16 points each. Edley Drawhorn supplied 10 points to round out the double figure scorers for the Wolves. Terrianna Cave grabbed a team-best six boards. West Georgia posted a clip of 47.5 from the floor and 43.5 from behind the 3-point line. The Wolves shot 55.6 percent from the charity stripe.
 
TURNING POINT
West Georgia, which led by seven at the intermission, opened the second half on a 13-0 run. The Wolves knocked down three, 3-pointers during the run with Harris knocking down a pair of the treys during the run.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Kaitlyn Thompson's eight rebounds marked a season-high rebounds. The Cleveland, Miss., native's previous best was four against Lane College on Nov. 13 earlier this season.
  • Moriah Hurst's 11 points marked a season-high. The former South Pike High School product surpassed her previous best of 10 against Montevall on Nov. 29 earlier this season.
  • Shanell Kitchen tied a season-high with two rebounds.
  • Mississippi College was 12-for-12 from the free throw line in the second half.
  • Mississippi College outscored West Georgia 20-16 in the final quarter.
  • The Lady Choctaws were 2-for-10 on their last 10 shots from the floor. The last field goal came on a 3-pointer from Hurst with 2:43 left to play.

Mississippi College returns to action on Monday, Jan. 7 as it travels to Rome, Ga., to face Shorter University. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. central at the Winthrop-King Centre.
