Lady Choctaws Drop Contest to UAH

CLINTON, Miss. --- Three Lady Choctaws scored in double figures as Mississippi College fell 80-69 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Jan. 26 in A.E. Wood Coliseum. The loss is the third straight for the Navy and Gold.
 
Lauran Sheriff led the team with 16 points while Jamilah Sanders finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Lindsey Vaughn tied a season-high with 11 points in the setback. Mississippi College shot 39.4 percent from the floor and connected on 80.0 percent from the free throw line.

Aryn Sanders led UAH with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Baylee Johnson finished one board shy of matching Sanders with a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. Holly Harris added 13 points. The Chargers shot 46.7 percent from the field, including 33.3 percent from behind the arc. The Blue and White connected on 61.3 percent from the charity stripe.
 
TURNING POINT
  • MC held a 54-53 lead with 9:04 left in the game, but UAH managed a 19-6 run over the course of six minutes to grab a 72-60 lead on a 3-pointer by Johnson from the top of the key.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Vaughn's season-high matched her scoring effort Nov. 17 against LeMoyne-Owen.
  • It marks the sixth time this season Sheriff has scored in double figures and the second in as many games.
  • Sanders moves to third on the team with double-digit scoring performances with her eighth of the season. It stands one shy of the team lead.
  • UAH held a 14-point lead with 15 seconds remaining in the game. It marked its largest lead of the game.

Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 31 as it travels to Huntsville, Ala., to face UAH. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
