Choctaws Fall to Hot-Shooting Flames, 74-64

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting night by Lee University in a 74-64 loss on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws fell to 4-11 on the season with a 1-9 Gulf South Conference mark. The Flames improved to 11-8 and 7-3 in league play.
 

TURNING POINT

After trailing 35-28 at halftime, junior Brandon Boston hit a jumper on MC's opening possession of the second half, but the Flames went on a 5-0 run and would not not lead by less than seven points the rest of the game.
 

KEY STATS

The Choctaws went 23-of-54 (43%) from the floor, but the Flames shot 28-of-46 (61%) and went 8-of-14 (57%) from the three-point line.

MC forced 20 turnovers, scoring 16 points off of the giveaways.

The Flames outrebounded the Choctaws, 32-22 and had 22 assists to just 10 for MC.

Boston led the Choctaws with 13 points, going 6-of-12 from the field, while sophomore Dyllan Taylor was also in double-figures with 11 points.

Senior Howard Thomas scored six points off the bench and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Senior Isaiah Austin and junior Tre Jenkins each chipped in nine points for the Choctaws.

Colton Blevins led the Flames with 21 points, going 9-of-11 from the floor, while Ryan Montgomery scored 15.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Flames scored the game's opening points, but when Jenkins hit a three-pointer with 17:28 remaining in the first half, the game was tied, 5-5.

Lee would score the next four points and would not trail the rest of the evening, pushing their lead out to as many as nine and taking a 35-28 lead into halftime.

Boston scored the first two points of the second half on a jumper to cut the score to 35-30, but the Flames would score the next five points and MC would get no closer than seven the rest of the way.

The Flames took their largest lead of the night at 66-51 with 5:41 remaining in the contest.
 

NEXT UP

The Choctaws will welcome Alabama Huntsville to Clinton on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
