Season-High Scoring Effort Leads @GoChoctawsWBB to Season Sweep

MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team used a season-high scoring effort and five Lady Choctaws scored in double figures as the Lady Choctaws registered the season sweep over Christian Brothers University on Thursday, Jan. 17 at Canale Arena.
 
The scoring output marks the most points for the program since Jan. 4, 2016 when the Lady Choctaws posted 91 against former Gulf South Conference and current Division I member, the University of North Alabama.

Jamilah Sanders led MC in scoring with a career-high 22 points. Coco Hobson recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Zariah Matthews added 17 points followed by 15 from Lauran Sheriff. Shanell Kitchens added a season-high 13 points.
 
MC shot 56.6 percent from the field, including a clip of 41.7 from behind 3-point arc.
 
Rachel Lee led CBU in scoring with 26 points followed by Kenzie Jones with 23. Makayla Enochs recorded a triple-double for the Red and Black with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Brynne Lytle supplied 13 points.
 
The Lady Bucs shot 43.5 percent from the floor and connected on 32.1 percent from behind the arc. CBU shot 83.3 percent from the free throw line.
 
TURNING POINT
  • Kitchens knocked down her team-best, third 3-pointer of the contest with 4:48 left to play in the game. The trey placed MC up by 10 points – its first double-digit lead since the four and a half minute mark of the second quarter.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Tonight is the first time five Lady Choctaws have scored in double figures in a game this season.
  • Hobson's double-double is the second this season for the Lady Choctaws. Hobson's first double-double came on Dec. 17 against CBU as she posted 15 points and 18 rebounds.
  • Sanders becomes just the second MC player to score 20-plus points in a game and joins Sheriff, who scored 20 against Montevallo on Nov. 29.
  • Sanders' scoring output marks the sixth time in her career she's scored in double figures and career-high surpassed her previous best of 16 set at Southern Arkansas on Dec. 31.
  • Matthews logged her team-best ninth game scoring in double figures and 20th of her season.
  • Kitchens' surpassed her previous high of six points set against Delta State on Dec. 15.

Mississippi College wraps up the road trip on Saturday, Jan. 19 at seventh-ranked Union University. MC looks for its first win in program history over the Bulldogs. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in Jackson, Tenn., at Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
