CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Mississippi College baseball team opened the Gulf South Conference Baseball Championship with an 8-4 victory over the fifth-seeded University of North Alabama. The Choctaws improve to 30-15 on the season while UNA falls to 31-18.
Blaine Crim and
Brandon Broussard each post multiple hit afternoons for MC with two hits each. The duo drove in six of the team's eight runs in the game, led by four RBI from Broussard.
Chris Crosby notched the win on the mound for the Navy and Gold. The victory marked his sixth of the season.
The win is the second over the Lions this season. MC blanked the Purple and Gold 7-0 in Florence, Ala., in the second game of the three-game series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Kyle Smith led off the top of the first with a double, Blaine Crim drove in the Petal, Miss., junior with a single up the middle.
- The Choctaws added four more in the fourth inning headlined by Broussard's two-run single to right center. Luke Yancey and Ty Alderman each added RBI in the frame.
- UNA got on the board in the fifth with a pair of runs, but MC responded in the bottom half of the frame as Crim drove in Grant Barber on a sacrifice fly.
- The Lions pulled within two runs in the seventh with a pair of runs earmarked by Davis Elliott's solo home run.
- MC put the game away in the bottom in the eighth with a pair of runs as Broussard collected his second, two-run single of game.
ON THE MOUND
- Chris Crosby (6-4) pitched seven innings in the win. Crosby allowed four runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and a walk.
- Tommy Taborda and Ryan Lane nailed down the final two innings for the Choctaws in relief. Taborda pitched a perfect eighth frame with a strikeout. Lane allowed one hit and a walk in his one inning of action.
- Tyler Joyner (8-5) tossed the complete game for UNA. He allowed all eight runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
