LAKELAND, Fla. – The Mississippi College baseball team fell 13-3 to nationally-ranked Delta State in its first appearance in the NCAA Division II South Regional. The Choctaws move to 33-16 on the season while the Statesmen improve to 41-9.
MC's offense was limited in the contest as it accounted for just three hits in the outing. Delta State poured in 13 hits en route to its scoring total.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen opened things early with three runs in their first trip to the plate as Clay Casey, Juwan Burney and Nick Morgan each drove in runs during the at-bat. DSU logged five hits in the frame.
- The Choctaws picked up their first run of the game as Hunter Wilson, who doubled to left center and moved up to third on a ground out, swiped home on a delayed steal.
- MC added its second run in the fourth as Blaine Crim scored on a ground out after he reached on a two-base throwing error.
- DSU responded with a four-spot in the bottom of the fourth headlined by an Emil Ellis triple to left field scoring three runs.
- The Statesmen applied a pair of insurance runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to expand their lead.
- MC picked up its final run in the top of the eighth as Brandon Broussard scored on a Kyle Smith sacrifice fly after the Choctaws loaded the bases with no outs in the frame.
ON THE MOUND
- Chris Crosby (7-5) tossed 4.2 innings in the start as he allowed nine runs on 11 hits. The Saucier, Miss., native walked one and fanned one.
- Seth Birdsong (9-0) recorded five strikeouts in six innings in the win for the Statesmen. Birdsong walked just one hit.
- Stephen Atkins pitched in a relief appearance for the Choctaws.
- Peyton White tossed in relief for the Statesmen.
- Hunter Lacefield tossed two, scoreless innings in relief to close the contest for the Navy and Gold.
