Baseball Topped by Christian Brothers in Series Opener, 2-0

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped game one of their three-game Gulf South Conference series with Christian Brothers University 2-0 on Friday, April 7. With the loss, the Choctaw's record now sits at 22-10 overall, and 11-7 in GSC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Buccaneers scored their first run of the game in the third inning, when a throwing error with two outs kept their inning alive, and allowed an unearned run to come across the plate.
- The Choctaws saw several scoring opportunities in the latter portion of the ballgame, as they were able to get a baserunner to third base in the 5th-9th innings, but could not pick up the big hit.
- MC saw one of their better scoring chances in the 8th inning of the contest, after Kyle Smith was successfully sacrificed bunted over to second by Hunter Wilson. The Choctaws were not able to capitalize, however, as a Billy Cameron foul out and a Luke Yancey groundout to first put an end to the inning.
- The Buccaneers struck for their final run of the game in the top of the 9th, courtesy of back-to-back two-out base hits, giving way to the final 2-0 score.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The Choctaws were outhit by the Buccaneers seven to five in the game.
- Dylan Duplechain led the charge for the Choctaws, with a team-high two base hits and the Choctaws lone extra base hit of the evening. Wilson, Yancey and Hunter Sykes recorded the other three hits for MC.
- Nick Traylor garnered a team-high two hits for the Bucs in the contest, in addition to scoring a run.
- Keagan Voss recorded Christian Brother's lone RBI.

- Peyton Sanderlin (4-6) picked up the win for Christian Brothers, striking out four in the complete game shutout of the Choctaws.

NOTEWORTHY
- Choctaw leadoff hitters were 5-9 in the contest, despite the Choctaws .067 (1-15) average with runners on and their .000 (0-11) mark with runners in scoring position.
- The loss marks for just the second time all season that the Choctaws have been shutout, and the first time they have been shutout on their home field.
