STORY LINES AND NOTES
Mississippi College (22-8, 11-6 GSC) will travel to Montevallo, Ala. to take on the University of Montevallo (25-11, 12-6 GSC) in a midweek clash on Wednesday, April 4. The Choctaws split a doubleheader with the Falcons in Clinton in their most recent meeting last week on March, 27.
In their most recent work, the Choctaws swept a GSC double-header against Union on Saturday, March 31 to take the series two games to one.
Junior outfielder
Luke Yancey's .387 batting average leads the Choctaws, who are hitting .318 as a team. Senior outfielder
Kyle Smith leads the Choctaws and sits tied for 2nd in the conference with 11 doubles, in addition to ranking among the top five in the GSC in runs scored (35) and on base percentage (.497).
On the mound,
Chris Crosby (4-2) has posted a team-best 46 strikeouts in a team-high 50.1 innings pitched. The Saucier, Miss. native also paces the Choctaws with four wins on the season.
Relievers
Ryan Lane an
Austin Chastang have combined for six of the Choctaws 10 saves on the season, with Lane accounting for three wins of out the bullpen and a team-low 3.07 ERA. Chastang's opponents' batting average of .200 marks for the team low.
The Choctaws checked in at number nine in the most recent South Regional Rankings compiled by the NCBWA on April 2.
Montevallo is coming off of a three-game sweep of Auburn Montgomery in GSC action this past weekend.
The Falcons head into the matchup as one of six GSC teams hitting above the .300 mark, at .306. The Falcon offense features three players hitting above the .350 mark, with Chad Wagner posting a team-high .388 average.
Cas Silber leads the Falcon pitching staff with six wins and 73 strikeouts, while Alex Pondick (1.35) and Logan Sabo (1.69) both boast ERAs under two.
The Falcons made their season debut in the most recent NBCWA South Regional Rankings announced on April 2, coming in at number seven.
