Baseball Preview: UAH

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team will trek to Huntsville, Ala. this weekend for a three-game Gulf South Conference series with the Chargers of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The series will commence with a doubleheader on Friday, April 13, beginning at 2:00 p.m., and conclude with a single game on Saturday, April 14 at 11:00 a.m.

STORY LINES AND NOTES
Mississippi College (24-10, 13-7 GSC) takes on Alabama Huntsville (21-17, 10-11 GSC) for GSC bragging rights in a three game-series this weekend from Charger Park in Huntsville, Ala . The Choctaws currently sit tied for fourth in the conference standings, while being just a game and a half out of third, and two games out of second place. 
 
In their most recent work, the Choctaws took two of three games from Christian Brothers in GSC action this past weekend. The Choctaws broke out for 19 runs in their Sunday double-header versus the Bucs, taking game one 11-1, and game two 8-3.  
 
Billy Cameron's .402 batting average leads the Choctaws, who are hitting .321 as a team. Blaine Crim leads the Choctaws in hits (52), home runs (6) and runs batted in (39), while Kyle Smith leads the Choctaws and ranks among the GSC's best in doubles (12), runs scored (40) and on-base percentage (.488)
 
On the mound, Chris Crosby (4-3) has posted a team-best 56 strikeouts in a team-high 60 innings pitched. Hunter Mullis (5-2) paces the Choctaw staff with five wins on the season.
 
Relievers Ryan Lane (3-2) an Austin Chastang (2-0) have combined for six of the Choctaws 10 saves on the season, which currently leads all teams in the GSC. Chastang's opponents' batting average of .188 marks for the team low.
 
The Choctaws checked in at number nine for the second week in a row in the most recent South Regional Rankings compiled by the NCBWA on April 9. 
 
Alabama Huntsville dropped two of three games versus West Alabama in GSC action in their most recent contests last weekend in Huntsville, Ala., including a 6-3 and a 3-0 setback in games two and three of the series against the Tigers on Sunday, April 8.
 
The Chargers are hitting .321 as a unit, highlighted by two players hitting above the .400 mark. Brady Bedingfield's .419 average paces the Charger offense, while AJ Walden sits behind him at .406. Walden leads the Charger attack in runs (36), hits (56), doubles (14), home runs (10) and RBIs (39).
 
Starting pitcher Jake Bracewell (4-3) leads the Charger staff with 51 strikeouts in a team-high 55 innings pitched. Reliever Dylan Murphy boasts a team-low 1.29 ERA, while reliever Brooks Brophy has notched a team-high five wins out of the bullpen, to go with a 2.77 ERA.
