CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team bounced back from a Game One loss to pick up a 4-3 win over the University of Montevallo on Tuesday afternoon at Dickins-Scoper Stadium.
The Choctaws (20-7) rebounded from an early deficit to grab the win in the nightcap, while the Falcons (22-11) held on for an 8-7 victory in the first contest.

MONTEVALLO 8, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 7 (GAME ONE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws jumped out to the early 2-0 lead in the first, highlighted by junior
Blaine Crim, who hit his fourth home run of the season.
- The Falcons would score the next six runs of the contest to grab the lead as Mark Castellucci and Khari Anderson hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning.
- MC would get going again in the fifth inning with a pair of run as junior
Luke Yancey doubled home junior
Kyle Smith and junior
Ty Alderman drew a bases loaded walk.
- Montevallo took advantage of a couple MC errors in the sixth inning to score two unearned runs and push the lead back to 8-4.
- The Choctaws would respond, however, with two scores in their half of the sixth as Yancey doubled home juniors
Hunter Sykes and
Tanner White.
- MC appeared poised to at least tie the game, but a hard-hit line drive by
Fulton Johnson as snagged by the Montevallo shortstop and turned into an inning-ending double play.
- The Choctaws would mount a rally in the seventh with two outs as White tripled down the right field line and scored on a single by Sykes.
- MC would then load the bases, but the Falcons held on for the victory by coaxing a flyout for the last out of the game.
KEY STATS
- Sophomore
Grant Barber led the Choctaws with three hits, while Yancey drove in a team-high three runs.
- Yancey, White and Sykes also had multiple hit games, while Smith and White each scored twice.
- Yancey (0-1) took the loss on the mound for MC in his first outing of the year, allowing four hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts over 3.0 innings.
- Anderson and Tyler Krabbe each had two hits for Montevallo, while Castellucci and Anderson each scored twice.
- Justin Whitley (4-2) collected the win for the Falcons, giving up six hits and four earned runs over 4.2 innings.
- Cale Latorre earned his sixth save of the year by pitching the final 2.1 innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 4, MONTEVALLO 3 (GAME TWO)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws got off to a slow start in the second game as the Falcons took advantage of four MC walks to grab a 3-0 lead after the first three outs.
- MC would get a run back in their half of the first as Crim drove in Smith with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 3-1 after a frame.
- The Choctaws would jump right back in the game in the second as Sykes singled home
Fulton Johnson to cut the lead in half.
- Smith had the big hit of the game with a single to right field that scored Sykes and sophomore
Dylan Duplechain to grab a 4-3 lead.
- It was all the offense that junior
Austin Chastang (1-0) would need as he came out of the bullpen and gave up just one hit with two strikeouts to collect the win.
- Juniors
Brandon Kennedy and
Ryan Lane pitched two perfect innings to close things out as Lane racked up his third save of the year.
KEY STATS
- Smith led the Choctaws with two hits and two RBI, while the 7-8-9 batters (Johnson, Duplechain and Sykes) each had a hit and a runs scored in the game.
- The bullpen combined to allow just three baserunners (walk, hit-by-pitch and hit) over the final 6.1 innings.
- Chastang and Lane each had two strikeouts, while Kennedy punched one out.
- Chrit Rudkin (4-2) took the loss for Montevallo despite tossing a complete game with strikeouts.
