#21 Choctaws Bounce Back to Salvage Doubleheader Split at UNA

FLORENCE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College baseball team bounced back from a tough 13-inning loss to grab a 7-0 win over North Alabama on Friday afternoon at Mike D. Lane Field.

The Choctaws moved to 19-5 with a 9-4 Gulf South Conference mark, while the Lions are now 17-11 and 9-5 in league play.
 

NORTH ALABAMA 2, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 1 – 13 Innings (GAME ONE)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both starting pitchers put on a show in the series opener as junior Chris Crosby struck out nine and allowed just one unearned run over 8.0 innings.
- Tyler Joyner gave up just five hits and an earned run over 8.0 innings, striking out four.
- The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 7th when the Lions scored an unearned run on an MC error.
- The Choctaws wasted no time responding as they tied things up in the 8th when junior Blaine Crim singled home sophomore Grant Barber with two outs.
- The game would go all the way to the 13th inning with both teams getting out of jams to keep the score tied, 1-1.
- The Lions finally grabbed the win on a bases loaded walk in the 13th to go home 2-1 winnners.
 
KEY STATS
- Crim, Barber and junior Luke Yancey each had two hits for the Choctaws, while Crim had a double in the contest.
- Logan Carter and Peyton Stockwell each had a pair of base-knocks to lead the UNA offense.
- Tommy Taborda (0-2) took the loss for the Choctaws, allowing two hits and an earned run over 1.1 innings.
- Josh Stillman (1-0) tossed the final 3.0 scoreless innings for the Lions, striking out three and allowing two hits.
- The 13-inning game was the longest MC has played since going 16 frames against Union on February 19, 2015.
 
 
MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 7, NORTH ALABAMA 0 (GAME TWO)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws wasted no time jumping out to a big lead in the second game, putting up five runs with two outs in the first inning.
- Crim hit his third home run of the season, a three-run shot that would prove to be the eventual game-winning runs.
- After a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch, sophomore Brandon Broussard cleared the bases with a double and give the Choctaws a 5-0 lead.
- It would be all the support senior Hunter Mullis (4-2) would need as he tossed the complete game shutout.
- The Choctaws would score the final runs of the game in the third inning as juniors Hunter Sykes and Kyle Smith each singled home runs with two outs.  

KEY STATS
- Broussard led the MC offensive attack with a hit and three RBI, while Crim had the two-run home run.
- Barber scored a team-high two runs as six different players scored in the contest.
- Mullis struck out eight and allowed just four hits in MC's first shutout of the season.
- Lane Wallace (4-3) took the loss for the Lions, allowing five hits and seven earned runs over 3.0 innings.

- The Choctaws and Lions are scheduled to wrap up the series on Saturday with a single game at 1:00 p.m.
