NEWS AND STORYLINES
-Mississippi College (17-4, 8-3 GSC) welcomes the Reddies of Henderson State University (16-9, 11-4 GSC) to Clinton for their first matchup in over 20 years. Mississippi College holds an all-time record of 11-2 against the Reddies, including a 6-2 advantage in games held in Clinton.
- The Choctaws 17-4 start marks for their best start to a season since the 2010 season, a year that saw MC finish 39-11.
- In their most recent action, the Choctaws split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader with the Argos of West Florida on Saturday, March 17.
- The Choctaws are hitting a GSC-best .334 as a team, highlighted by six players hitting above the .350 mark. Junior third baseman
Billy Cameron paces the Choctaws with a .397 batting average. Senior right fielder
Kyle Smith leads both the Choctaws and the GSC with 10 doubles, in addition to ranking among the top 5 in the GSC in on-base percentage (.519) and runs scored (28).
- On the mound,
Chris Crosby (4-1) has posted a team-best 33 strikeouts in a team-high 39 innings pitched. The Saucier, Miss. native also paces the Choctaws with four wins on the season.
- The Choctaws were receiving votes in the most recent NCBWA rankings, while coming in at number four in the South Regional Rankings compiled by the NCBWA.
- Relievers
Ryan Lane and
Tommy Taborda have combined for five of the Choctaws seven saves on the season, with Lane accounting for three wins of out the bullpen.
- Henderson State is coming off of a weekend sweep over Southeast Oklahoma State University in Great American Conference action this past weekend.
- The Reddies are hitting .254 as a team, led by Jordan Harris's mark of .356. Harris also paces the Reddie offense with 32 hits and 21 runs scored.
- The Reddies team earned run average of 4.85 is highlighted by three players with ERA's under 3. Reliever Taylor Langston leads the staff with a 1.26 ERA, while starter Bryant Haralson posts a team-high 48 strikeouts.
