CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team split a Gulf South Conference double-header with the Argonauts of the University of West Florida on Saturday, falling 15-4 in game one, and winning 5-2 in game two. With the split, the Choctaws record now sits at 17-4 overall, and 8-3 in GSC play.
 
GAME ONE
TURNING POINT 
- After cutting their deficit to 6-4 in the bottom of the 5th, the Choctaws saw their deficit grow after the Argonauts put up four runs in the 6th to claim a 10-4 lead. The Argos were able to cruise the rest of the way to their 15-4 win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- 
Hunter Wilson led the way offensively for the Choctaws in game one, with a team-high two hits and two runs driven in.
- 
Blaine Crim and 
Ty Alderman accounted for the other two runs driven in, with Crim's coming on his second home run of the season.
- Crim also recorded a team-high two runs in the game
- 
Chris Crosby (4-1) took the loss in game one. The junior right-hander allowed six earned over 4.1 innings of work, en route to his first loss of the year.
- Nic Strasser led the Argo attack in game one, with three hits, three runs scored, and three runs driven in. Strasser and Robert Lopez both slugged home runs in game one.
- Dylan Mills-Derouen (3-0) picked up the win for West Florida, scattering four runs over six innings of work.
- Josh Palad (1) picked up the save for the Argos
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws grabbed the early lead, with a three run first inning that saw Wilson plate 
Grant Barber and 
Kyle Smith with a single to left, and a 
Ty Alderman RBI hit by pitch.
- The Argos would respond in the second with three runs courtesy of an RBI double from Matt Sullivan, and a two-run homer from Robert Lopez.
- West Florida would take the lead in the 3rd inning, on a home run from Strasser.
- Following their four-run inning in the 6th to see their lead climb to 10-4, the Argos would go on to tack on five more runs in the 9th, with three of those five coming on RBI walks.
 
 
NOTEWORTHY
- The Argonauts 15 runs marked for the most given up by the Choctaws all season.
- Six different pitchers took the hill for MC in game one, with 
Christian Bellew and 
Shelby Craddock both logging a game-high 1.2 innings of work out of the bullpen.
 
 
GAME TWO
TURNING POINT
- After seeing their lead trimmed to just one, Crim delivered an RBI single to center field in the 5th, doubling MC's lead to 4-2 and giving the Choctaws enough breathing room to secure the 5-2 win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Choctaws outhit the Argos 10-4 in game two. Smith led the way for MC with a team-best three hits, and two runs scored.
- 
Billy Cameron drove in a team-high two runs in the contest. The junior third baseman picked up both of his RBIs on a two-run homerun to right, his team-best 5th of the year.
- Crim and Wilson both recorded two hits in game two, in addition to both scoring a run and driving in a run.
- 
Hunter Mullis (3-2) earned the win for the Choctaws. The senior southpaw scattered two runs over six innings of work, while striking out four along the way.
- 
Ryan Lane (2) picked up his second save of the year. Lane struck out two while working the last inning of the game.
- Nick Kerkmann and Joey Bend scored the lone two runs for the Argos, while Sullivan and Matt Jones drove in the Argos two runs.
- Kirk Maddox (2-3) took the loss for West Florida. Maddox worked four innings, surrendering four runs and striking out two.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws drew first blood in the contest, when Cameron smashed his 5th home run of the year in the 3rd inning that also plated Smith.
- The Choctaws would go on to add another run in the third, via a 
Brandon Broussard RBI single to left field that plated Crim.
- The Argos would cut their deficit to 3-2 in the 4th inning with a two-spot, coming from a sac fly from Sullivan, and an RBI reached on error from Matthew Jones.
- The Choctaws added two more insurance runs in the 5th and 6th innings, with Crim's RBI single to center and a Wilson single up the middle that plated Smith.
- Lane would hold the Argos scoreless in the 7th, en route to locking down his second save out of the bullpen.
 
NOTEWORTHY
- The Choctaws batted .364 (4-11) with runners in scoring position, while batting an incredible .833 (5-6) when leading off an inning.
- Three of the five Choctaws runs batted in came with two outs.
- The Choctaws pitching staff held the Argos to .071 (1-14) with runners on .000 (0-7) with runners in scoring position, and .000 (0-9) with two outs.
 
UP NEXT
- The Choctaws will welcome the Reddies of Henderson State University to Clinton on Tuesday, March 20 for a nonconference tilt. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
