Baseball Preview: at West Georgia

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team returns to the diamond this weekend as it travels to Carrollton, Ga., for a Gulf South Conference series against the University of West Georgia. The series opens on Friday, Feb. 23 with a 3 p.m. central first pitch at Cole Field. The weekend concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 24 with an 11 a.m. start.

WEEKEND STORY LINES & NOTES
•    Mississippi College rides a seven-game win streak into this weekend's Gulf South Conference opening series after the Choctaws rallied to top Arkansas-Monticello 11-8 on Tuesday afternoon at Weevils Field.
•    Mississippi College is off to its best start since 2010 when MC started 16-1 en route to a 39-11 record and advanced to the NCAA Regional.
•    Junior Billy Cameron hit his second homerun of the season on Tuesday at UAM. The Mendenhall, Miss., native leads the Navy and Gold with a .455 clip at the plate.
•    Redshirt Junior Kyle Smith leads the Choctaws in hits with 16 this season. The Petal, Miss., product has eight doubles, which leads the GSC.
•    Junior Chris Crosby has two wins on the mound this season and sits second on the team in strikeouts with 13. Crosby has posted a 1.26 ERA in two starts. Hunter Mullis leads the Choctaw hurlers with 14 strikeouts.
•    The weekend's action marks the first time that the Choctaws have opened conference play with West Georgia.
•    West Georgia suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday as it fell 13-4 at Columbus State. A trio of Wolves posted a pair of hits in the contest while Andrew Marshall took the loss on the mound with four runs allowed on three hits along with a walk.
•    Cade Marlow paces the Red and Blue at the plate with a .468 batting average and has driven in a team-best 21 runs. Wes Bucher leads the Wolves on the bump with three of the team's 10 wins. Bucher has a tea-best 2.25 ERA in 16 innings of work.
•    Andres Fernandez was named GSC Pitcher of the Week. He allowed just one run in a 13-3 win over Albany State while fanning 15 batters. The Miami, Fla., native leads the team with 22 strikeouts this season.
